 Introduction.

Hailing from Imo State in the southeastern part of Nigeria, Uzor Arukwe, born on August 6, 1983, is a Nigerian actor who gained recognition for his performances both in film and theater.

He became popular after receiving nominations at the 2020 African Magic Viewers' Choice Award (AMVCA) and the 2021 Best of Nollywood Awards.

In regards to Nollywood's system of casting actors based on social media following particularly Instagram, he disagrees with it as he claims it could happen at time and it hinders actors to act certain roles.

He emphasized that Nolly wood should relt on someone’’s talent other than popularity on Instagram.

During his earlier days in the acting profession he could face adversity and hence it was was quite demanding for him ,he said due to such a system by Nollywood.

Arukwe stressed that he recalls vividly when he started, noting that it posed a significant challenge for him as an actor.

Additionally, he said at one point in this industry, his emphasis was primarily placed on Instagram and Twitter followers, among other factors. 

Still, Although he didn't fully grasp it, he recognized its importance as production houses prioritize hiring based on these metrics.

He continued to say that he was consistently scrutinized with the question: "Can he really perform ?" Nonetheless, there are exceptionally talented individuals who excel in acting and also boast a significant following.

However, Uzor Arukwe's perspective sheds light on the evolving landscape of Nollywood, where the traditional criteria for casting are being challenged by the influence of social media metrics. Arukwe's journey exemplifies the struggles and triumphs of actors navigating an industry that sometimes prioritizes online popularity over raw talent.

As he continues to advocate for a shift towards talent-based casting decisions, Arukwe emphasizes the importance of recognizing and nurturing genuine acting prowess beyond the numbers on Instagram or Twitter.
