The 2024 Annual Produced By Conference featured top film and TV producers discussing the current and future state of producing at FOX Studios in Los Angeles, CA. The conference covered a variety of hot topics, including AI and how to successfully pitch ideas in the evolving producing landscape.
The Producers Guild of America’s (PGA) 14th Annual Produced By Conference brought together industry leaders to discuss thriving in the evolving entertainment landscape. Highlights included HBO | Max executives and leading producers sharing insights on pitching and developing original series like "Curb Your Enthusiasm," "How To with John Wilson," "Tokyo Vice," and "Hacks." They also discussed challenges and strategies for adapting to changes in the industry.
The State of Producing panel, moderated by the President of the Producers Guild of America, Stephanie Allain, delved into the critical challenges currently facing producers. Panellists Mike Farah (Funny or Die), Lynette Howell Taylor (A Star is Born), Tommy Oliver (Founder & CEO, Confidential Films), and Brad Simpson (Partner, Color Force) discussed industry challenges and strategies for adapting to the constantly evolving landscape. They emphasized the importance of finding compelling stories and forming aligned partnerships.
Lori McCreary, Renard T. Jenkins, and Ghaith Mahmood talked about practical, legal, and ethical considerations when using AI in projects, as well as the implications for training the next generation of producers. The Future of Producing Panel shared insights on innovation in the film and television industry, including connecting with audiences more directly, creating content rooted in real stories, and the impact of new technologies.
There were also discussions on using AI to elevate projects and add value across productions, as well as creating hit shows like Accused. The event also showcased the award-winning VR experience "Body of Mine," which allows participants to experience the stories of transgender individuals through their perspectives.
