In an intimate interview with Steven on "Diary of a CEO" podcast, the pitch perfect star talks her child hood from an athletic young girl to the fat Emmy in pitch perfect and how she got to lossing weight plus what the journey was like.
Rebel Wilson who is popularly known as fat Emmy form the film series “Pitch Perfect” where she plays the always jolly funny fat friend in the acapella group the Bellas.
She sits down with Steven on the podcast “The Diary of the CEO” she talks about her childhood and career the light and dark side of both.
She starts off with her childhood and she mentions how strict her father was and how it affected her. As a child she was abused in various ways one of which was questioning her self-worth with her father verbally abusing her saying she will never amount to anything and nobody will ever love her. She gets in-depth of how her father’s relationship with her mother also affected her. She says due to her father’s failure to achieve his big dreams he transferred this hate and disappointment feelings in a negative way to his family, in the long run she saw her mother toil through this and never so the point of marriage anf companionship until later no in life.
All this causes her to abuse her body hence her being overweight, so she finally gets into Hollywood as a way to benefit from this not so positive part of her life, that’s how we got the funny fat friend in her various roles. She says despite her being fit at age 16, she was very athletic and played various sports, she always had the goal to lose weight which surprised her as she read her old dairies for her book research. She viewed her weight as a golden goose and got into comedy with her weight as her biggest card, Hollywood recieved her and her career as an actress kicked off and as long as her weight was on the roles kept coming.
She later on visits a doctor who tell her that because of her weight and then physical health, she may never be able to have a child, previously she never thought of having a child due to her career as her weight gave her work. She then sets off on thus journey with alot if resistance form her team who believed losing her weight was like letting the golden goose die. The time she started losing weight the fans we're split with some happy for her and other encouraging her to keep the weight on for purposes of inclusivity, she however stuck to her goal and lost the weight, she shares her story not only on public interviews but also in her book, "Rebel Rising" which is very detailed version of the story. Despite the criticism she is thriving as an actress, film maker and now writer, Rebel fought the odds and is now an inspiration for all young girls out there that its never too late to pick your self up and get better. A reminder to everyone all that your past can be made better, you just have to work for it.
