By Nalule Halimah

Driven by passion and resilience, Namakula Hildah uses her talent as an actress and costume designer to celebrate Africa’s creativity and authenticity.

Meet Namakula Hildah, a talented film actress and costume designer from Nansana, Uganda, whose journey in the film industry began in 2020 with Giraffe Motion Films after successfully auditioning at Club Obirigato. Her passion for storytelling and African artistry has allowed her to create a lasting impact in the Ugandan film scene.

Hildah’s love for working in the film industry stems from her desire to adopt new skills and knowledge. Over the years, she has contributed to several notable projects, including "Tecora" and "Incredible Seven." These experiences have been pivotal in her growth as a professional, and she is especially proud of her work as a costume designer, where she focuses on showcasing the inner beauty of Africa through traditional and modern designs.

However, Hildah’s journey has not been without challenges. She has faced difficulties such as balancing film and work, transportation issues, unfinished projects, and dealing with producers and directors who ask for money or favors. Despite these obstacles, Hildah remains steadfast in her commitment to her craft, embodying resilience and determination.

Hildah’s greatest inspiration is Director Swaib Nakibinge, whose work motivates her to push boundaries and strive for excellence. To those aspiring to join the film industry, she offers this advice: "Know what you want, be true to your dreams, and always be down to earth." These values have guided her throughout her career and continue to shape her approach to storytelling and design.

Looking ahead, Hildah’s ultimate goal is to become the best costume designer in the world, using her work to celebrate African creativity and authenticity on a global stage. She believes that African cinema is on the right track, and she is proud to contribute to an industry that tells the truth about African life through storytelling.

When she’s not working on film sets, Hildah reveals a little-known fact about herself: she is a jolly person, bringing positivity and joy to those around her.
